Ingredients 

Waffle Batter

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • 2 large Eggs separated
  • 1 ¾ cups Buttermilk
  • ½ cup Vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon Red food coloring

Instructions 

  1. Preheat your waffle iron.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, buttermilk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and red food coloring.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Gently fold in the beaten egg whites.
  6. Pour the batter onto the preheated waffle iron and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions until the waffles are crisp and cooked through.
  7. Serve warm with your favorite toppings.
