Main Ingredients
- 1 cup butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
Add the sugar, buttermilk, and vanilla extract. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring constantly.
Remove from heat and stir in the baking soda. The syrup will foam up, so be careful.
Let the syrup cool slightly before serving. It will thicken as it cools.
