Main Ingredients
- 2 cups precooked cornmeal (masarepa)
- 1.5 cups warm water
- 1 cup grated cheese (mozzarella or queso blanco)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoon butter melted
In a mixing bowl, combine the cornmeal, warm water, grated cheese, salt, and melted butter. Mix until a dough forms.
Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and shape them into patties about ½ inch thick.
Heat a skillet over medium heat and lightly grease it. Cook the arepas for about 5 minutes on each side, until golden brown and crispy.
Serve warm, with butter or your favorite toppings.
